A memorable tour

I’ve read a lot about World War II and the Cold War, but this was my first time in Berlin. Seeing the actual places, such as the Berlin Wall and the Reichstag, really put everything into perspective. Our guide was fantastic, full of knowledge and stories that made it easy to follow. A memorable tour and the highlight of my trip. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to get a better understanding of the historical events.

Martin
Excellent tour of Berlin’s history

The tour began at the Brandenburg Gate and lasted approximately 2 hours at a leisurely pace. We visited all the key sites, and our guide was great - very knowledgeable, patient, and always ready to answer questions. The small group made it a personal and relaxed experience. The Holocaust Memorial was incredibly moving, and seeing the Berlin Wall in person made the city’s divided past feel real. A fantastic Berlin tour, definitely worth taking while in the city.

Visit the city’s most important sites as your expert guide shares stories of dictatorship, war, division, and reunification. Choose a private tour for a personal experience or join a group to explore together.

BRANDENBURG GATE & REICHSTAG

Start at the Brandenburg Gate, once the backdrop for Nazi ceremonies and propaganda events, and today a symbol of unity. Continue to the Reichstag and hear how the 1933 fire changed history, and how the building rose from ruins to become the home of German democracy.

MEMORIALS & HITLER’S BUNKER

Visit the Soviet War Memorial in Tiergarten, where Soviet-era tanks are still on display. Walk through the moving Holocaust Memorial, dedicated to millions of victims. See the site of Hitler’s Bunker, Göring’s former Ministry of Aviation, and the Gestapo headquarters - places where the Nazi regime planned its terror.

THE BERLIN WALL & CHECKPOINT CHARLIE

Walk along a preserved stretch of the Berlin Wall and hear stories of daring escapes and daily life in a divided city. Learn how the wall shaped Berlin for decades and how its fall in 1989 changed Germany forever. End the tour at Checkpoint Charlie, the Cold War’s most famous border crossing.

Did you know?

  • The Brandenburg Gate was built in 1791 as a symbol of peace, inspired by the Propylaea, the monumental gateway to the Acropolis in Athens.
  • In 1806, Napoleon marched into Berlin and stole the Quadriga, the statue on top of the gate, taking it to Paris. It was returned after his defeat.
  • During the Cold War, the Brandenburg Gate stood in East Berlin, blocked by the Wall and cut off from both sides, a powerful symbol of division.

FAQ - Berlin Third Reich and Cold War Walking Tour

What are the benefits of this guided tour compared to sightseeing on your own?

On this tour, a certified guide explains the history behind each site and shares real stories that bring Berlin’s past to life. Instead of just looking at landmarks such as the Reichstag and the Berlin Wall, you’ll understand their meaning and how they’re connected.

How much walking is involved during the Berlin Third Reich and Cold War Walking Tour?

You can expect to walk around 2 km during this tour. The tour pace is comfortable, with plenty of stops for explanations. Comfortable shoes are recommended. For a more personalized approach, we recommend booking the private option.

Is the Berlin Third Reich and Cold War Walking Tour suitable for children?

Yes, but keep in mind the tour deals with sensitive historical topics. Older children and teens often find it very educational.

Do we visit Hitler’s bunker during this tour?

You’ll stand at the site where the bunker once was. Although nothing remains above ground, your guide explains what happened there during Hitler’s final days. If you’d like to see a replica of Hitler’s Bunker, we recommend taking the Berlin Bunker Tour.

What makes this tour different from reading history books?

Here, history happens right in front of you. Instead of just reading about the Cold War or World War II, you stand where it all took place while your guide connects the stories to the landmarks.

Is the original Checkpoint Charlie still there, and can I go inside?

The original guardhouse was removed in 1990. Today, you’ll find a replica booth, signs, and an open-air display. You can’t go inside, but it’s a great spot for photos and to learn more about Berlin’s division.

What else should I see while in Berlin?
