A great way to discover the city

It was my first time in Berlin, and I wanted to see as much as possible. Berlin is a beautiful city, and this walking tour was perfect. We visited many sites, from the Berlin Cathedral to World War II monuments, so I felt like I really got to know the city. I especially enjoyed Museum Island. I’ve never seen so many famous museums in such close proximity. Great guide and a relaxing pace, never felt rushed. Recommended!

A Berlin experience that’s worth it

We did this walking tour with our teenage kids, and we really enjoyed it. We took family photos at the Brandenburg Gate, and the kids loved posing at Checkpoint Charlie. They were fascinated by the stories about the Wall and asked plenty of questions, especially about Hitler’s bunker. The guide was super friendly and explained everything in a way that made history easy and fun. This Berlin tour was definitely worth the time and money.

Berlin Walking Tour

EXPLORE BERLIN ON FOOT

Discover Berlin’s history on a guided tour with a professional guide. See the city’s most important sites from the Imperial and Prussian eras to World War II, the Cold War, and modern Berlin. Walk the same streets where history unfolded. Hear stories of power, destruction, division, and reunification. Choose a private tour for a personal experience or join a group to explore together.

WORLD WAR II & COLD WAR LANDMARKS

On this tour, you’ll visit Berlin’s most important World War II and Cold War sites. See the Brandenburg Gate and the Berlin Wall, both central symbols of Berlin’s divided past. Stop at Checkpoint Charlie, the city’s most famous border crossing, and hear the story of the dramatic tank standoff that brought the world close to war.

SITE OF HITLER’S BUNKER

You’ll also stand at the site of Hitler’s bunker, where he spent his final days. The bunker was partially destroyed after the war and later buried beneath residential buildings. Today, only a simple information board marks the spot. At Bebelplatz, learn about the night in 1933 when the Nazis burned thousands of books - a dark chapter in Berlin’s history.

VISIT MUSEUM ISLAND

Museum Island is one of the most beautiful places in Berlin. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, featuring art, history, and historic buildings. The island is home to five famous museums. The Bode Museum is known for sculptures and Byzantine art. The Alte Nationalgalerie exhibits 19th-century works by artists such as Monet. Next to it is the Berlin Cathedral, with a huge dome and great city views from the top. Built in Baroque style, the cathedral is the largest church in Berlin and a major landmark of the city. Walking around the island, you can also enjoy elegant buildings and scenic views of the River Spree.

Interesting facts about the city of Berlin

CITY OF BRIDGES

Berlin has nearly 1,000 bridges - more than double the number in Venice, which has about 435. Most cross the River Spree and its canals, making Berlin one of Europe’s true “bridge cities”.

THE EMPTY LIBRARY AT BEBELPLATZ

At Bebelplatz, you can look through a glass panel in the ground and see an underground room with empty bookshelves. They could hold 20,000 books, the same number the Nazis burned in this square in 1933.

EINSTEIN’S UNIVERSITY

Albert Einstein once taught at Humboldt University in Berlin. This famous university produced 29 Nobel Prize winners (over 50 if you include wider academic associations).

FAQ - Berlin Walking Tour

Is it better to explore Berlin on your own or join a walking tour?

You can explore Berlin independently, but a walking tour gives you the stories behind the landmarks. With a guide, you’ll learn context, hidden details, and local tips you’d likely miss on your own. Plus, in a group, you’ll cover more sights in less time without worrying about directions.

Do I need to book a Berlin Walking Tour in advance?

Yes, it’s best to book early, especially during the busy summer months. Berlin usually welcomes several million visitors in the summer. Walking tours are one of the most popular activities, so spots can fill up quickly.

What’s special about Museum Island?

It’s the only place in the world where five major museums are built on a single island, and it’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Can I bring children?

Absolutely, children are welcome on the Berlin Walking Tour. The tour's duration is reasonable, and the walking pace is relaxed. Many kids find sites like the Berlin Wall, Checkpoint Charlie, and Brandenburg Gate especially engaging.

Do I need tickets for the sites we visit?

No, most stops are outdoor landmarks and memorials. Entry tickets are only required if you wish to visit museums after the tour. Check out our Berlin Tickets to book them in advance.

Do we visit Hitler’s bunker during this tour?

You’ll stop at the location where the bunker once stood. While there are no original remains to see today, your guide will describe what happened here in Hitler’s final days. If you want to learn more about a reconstruction of the bunker, the Berlin Bunker Tour is a good option.

What else is worth seeing while in Berlin?
