The DDR Museum was great. All the exhibits were fun and interactive. I especially loved sitting in the Trabant. The apartments were fully furnished, and opening cupboards to see appliances and everyday items used back then was interesting. I enjoyed looking through the school notebooks and kitchen tools. When I went, it wasn’t as busy, so I could explore at my own pace and spend plenty of time in each area. All in all, a great visit.
The media section stood out during my visit to the DDR Museum. I watched old news clips, documentaries, and computer simulations about life in East Germany. It explained travel restrictions, the Stasi, and everyday routines in an easy-to-follow way. I also liked how we could interact with objects and displays while learning. The mix of videos and hands-on exhibits made it very educational.

The DDR Museum opened in 2006 and is one of the most interactive history museums in Berlin. The iconic Trabant
The Trabant P601, often called the “Trabi”, is one of the most famous symbols of East Germany. It was small, simple, and built to last. But it was also a sign of the challenges of life under the GDR’s planned economy. Even though the Trabi had a simple design and a two-stroke engine, it became a cherished part of daily life. It took families to work, school, and holidays. An interesting fact is that some people waited between 10 and 15 years to receive one after ordering it. At the DDR Museum, you can sit in a real Trabant and take a virtual drive through a 1970s Berlin neighborhood. The simulator recreates the sights, sounds, and even the quirks of driving this iconic car.
